Points and Concerns

Points

Purpose: For students to assess citizenship and teachers to model citizenship

Reason:  Students and staff EARN points when they are doing what is expected and doing it the best they can.  This provides an opportunity for students and staff to take responsibility for interfering behavior or not meeting expectations.

Procedure:

1. Students always begin the points period with zero points and earn points for doing what is expected.

2. At the end of a points period teachers review expectations, model self-assessment by doing their points, and then ask students to self-assess themselves.

3.   Each student’s name is called and student states points.  This is recorded on the class point chart.   Students not earning full points must state the reason.  A student may validate earning full points by stating their points and how they met expectations.

4.   After all teacher and student points are stated, all names are read a second time for concerns

5.   Students record points in their planner's MYD box using an ink pen.  Students therefore should have their planners with them during each class period.
