Anthony Cummins
Things just keep
getting curiouser and curiouser. I’m trying hard to be a better team leader
nowadays. I have such a hard time
letting go of work that I’ve done for so many years; however, I am beginning to
find that I enjoy leading the team, delegating some of my more traditional
duties, and helping my assistants in other ways. It is very challenging for me, but I think I’m
getting better at it all the time.
Hi. I’m Anthony Cummins, your Network Systems
Manager, and I’ve worked in the Computer Services Department since 1992. I’m becoming the team leader of your Network
& Servers Team in what is now the Technology Services Division, currently
reinventing itself to become your eLearning Division.
History:
When
I became your Network Systems Manager in 1992, a new wide-area network (WAN)
was in the process of being installed.
Before that, there were disconnected Local Area Networks (LANs)
throughout the district, and I understand that they were mostly Macintosh
networks and Novell school lab networks.
The
centralized library and administrative staff services network I was hired to
administer was based on Digital Equipment Corporation VAX® servers. They provided file and print services to
roughly 300 diskless Intel 386®, DOS-based personal computers. We installed 8 to 12 workstations in each of
your libraries, and a whopping 2 computers in each office.
If
you’ve been here at least 11 years, you’ve noticed that there’ve been a few
changes since then.
