Thursday night, October 19, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Learning Complex (CLC), our district is handing out our 1000th computer to a C-FB ISD family.
Through the Universal Access program, 1000 repurposed computers have been distributed since 2004. Over 2,000 children have been impacted through this initiative.
The Universal Technology Access Program provides a home computer system to students who do not have access to this technology. One computer per family is provided. Students will be able to access district curriculum from home. This is a district-wide program that benefits students and their families.
The program exists because a student’s opportunity for success is increasingly tied to the use of telecommunications. Yet, according to The Children’s Partnership, over 50 million Americans are unable to access or use the online services they need to be successful. For those with low income, limited literacy skills, or disabilities, a persistent “access gap” leaves the promise of the Web unfulfilled. The Universal Access Program was established to fill this gap.
