Overview
The journalism program has a long history, going back into at least the 1930s when the Lion's Tale was published as a letter-size newspaper. Over the years the paper has evolved into a computer-generated tabloid-size publication, but the goals have remained consistent. The school paper provides a learning opportunity for young people who want to improve their writing skills, to work as part of a team to produce a quality school publication, and to explore the possibility of becoming a professional writer or journalist. In addition, we now have an online version of the newspaper so that we can be more current and also allow students to gain experience with a web-based publication.
The Roar yearbook has also been around since the 1930s, and it too has evolved over the years. This year's book will be the third to be produced entirely online in collaboration with Taylor Publishing Company. Working with state-of-the-art computers and software, the entire process of assembling pages will be web based. Students will be able to access their pages from their home computers at night and on weekends without having to come to the school to complete a deadline.
