10th grade Humanities advisory week 1

9/5/08

Goal:

Students will understand the purpose, logistics, and benefits of advisory.

Materials:

Butcher paper/3m pads, markers, notebook paper

Activities:

Students will work in groups to define and identify what advisory is and what they want to get out of advisory this year.  The new procedures for advisory will also be discussed.

Procedures:

1.          Break the group up into pairs.  On notebook paper have the students with their partners write down the definition of advisory or what they think advisory is.

2.          Students share out.  Record their definitions on a large sheet of butcher paper.

3.          Still in pairs have the students write down three successes to advisory and three failures to advisory last year.  Give them a few minutes to discuss.

4.          Students share out their thoughts.  Write these down while they are sharing on the same piece of butcher paper.  Save the list to give to me after advisory.

5.          Explain the changes we have implemented to advisory this year and the plans we have.
