Students at Ted Polk Middle School have access to computers and printers in all core and most elective classes.
T.P.M.S. also has three PC labs, each equipped with 335 Compaq computers with combination DVD player and CD-RW drives, HP scanner, a Zenith TV, and a teacher multi-media cart.
Technology such as: digital or video cameras, Elmo projectors, data projectors and two student presentation systems is available for checkout through the Media Center. Student presentation systems include a laptop computer and data projector with a document camera. These systems are available for class presentations and may be connected to the student network..
All computers have Internet access. Students may use the Internet for class projects. They are encouraged to use one of these search engines: Google, Ask Jeeves for Kids or Yahooligans, as they return the most school appropriate and accessible search results.
Portable data storage devices such as floppy disks, CD's and portable hard drives may be used by students as long as they have the devise scanned for viruses prior to using it in a school computer. Floppy disks and portable hard drives need to be scanned each time they are used on a different computer. CD's if they are READ only, need to be scanned once. If they are read-write, they also need to be scanned each time they are used on a different computer.
All students have their own personal computer account. Their student ID number will be their log on name, they will be advised at the beginning of the year (or when they enroll at T.P.M.S.) about their password. The domain is CFBLAB.
