May 2008

  • Write a story with lots of details.  Think of a good character, setting, problem, and solution.
  • Practice writing using a capital at the beginning of the sentence, using mostly lowercase letters, and using ending punctuation.
  • Practice our sight words  Can you read all these words?  CLICK HERE
  • Read, read, read!  Use your reading strategies...use the pictures as a clue, get your mouth ready for the word, what would make sense, and if you get stuck go back to the capital to get a running start, look for chunks you know.  Make connections while you read.
  • Find our word wall words in books.  Check out our current word wall words here
  • Practice clapping syllables in words.
  • Practice left from right.
  • Look for 2-D and 3-D shapes
  • Use an analog clock to tell time.  Make a schedule...what do you do at each hour of the day?
  • Get out your piggy bank and count how much money you have.  Sort the coins.  How many do you have of each?
  • Count to 100...can you go farther?
  • ADD and SUBTRACT.  Think of a number and try to think of many ways you can add or subtract groups to make that number.  Example...I can make 10 by adding 5+5, subtracting 15-5, adding 2+2+2+2+2, etc.
  • Practice days of the week and months of the year.
