TRANSPORTATION: If you have a change in the way your child leaves school, you must send a written note. Please do not rely on your child to tell me this important information. Many times children will forget and/or relay incorrect information. If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation. Please notify Daycare centers in relation to early dismissals, school holidays, special events, etc. |

UNIFORMS/CLOTHING:We have a mandatory uniform policy at Landry. Please help your child wear his/her uniform each day. On Fridays, students may wear jeans with either a uniform shirt or a spirit shirt. On Wednesdays, students may wear jeans if they contribute $1 to the 5th grade class trip. There will be a collection jar in the hall they can place their money in. This is optional. We also ask that you be alert of the weather when dressing your child. Be sure that he/she is dressed appropriately for cold or hot temperatures as outdoor play and physical activities are an important part of our kindergarten program. Please label all articles of clothing that might come off your child (jackets, sweaters)! |

PLANNERS: The planner is an important communication tool between school and home. Each day your child will bring home his/her planner. Please look through your child’s planner every night and initial or sign by your child’s Make Your Day 4, 3, 2, 1 grade. Please make sure that the planner is returned each morning. I will also check your child’s planner daily for any correspondence you wish to send to me. In order to foster a sense of responsibility in our students, we encourage them to be in charge of remembering to bring their own planners each day! This is a huge lesson in responsibility! Planners cost $5. Thank you for your support! |

DISCIPLINE: We follow a school-wide self discipline system which is based on the rule: No one has the right to interfere in the learning, safety, and well-being of others. This program is called Make Your Day. Students will learn accountability for their own actions, celebrate successes and participate in peer conflict resolution. The consistency and predictability of the program will allow students to make informed choices regarding their behavior. Parents will play an integral role in the success of this program as you celebrate and discuss with your child, his/her your child his/her daily behavior choices. Please be aware that this system may require prompt parent conferences via telephone or in person. You will learn more about this program during our Meet the Teacher Night as well as through information sent home in your child’s Thursday folder and planner. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions if needed. I will start giving Make Your Day grades soon. Make your Day grades: 4=Yeah! I made my day! 3= I made my day; however I needed a few reminders 2= I needed more than 3 reminders. 1= Step 4/Parent conference |

VOLUNTEERS:
We
will have several special days in Kindergarten that will require "extra
hands". We will send home notes well in advance of those days. In accordance
with District policy, all volunteers must complete a criminal background
check, prior to volunteering in the classroom or on field trips.
Please sign up online at
www.cfbisd.edu/volunteer
If you are interested in serving as a classroom or school wide volunteer, PLEASE let me know! You are very much needed! We are in need of help with copying, cutting, coloring, party and event planning, special projects and more. Your assistance not only benefits us but your children as well. More volunteer information will be coming home soon but don’t hesitate to express your interest now! |

HOMEWORK: I believe that learning not only occurs in the classroom, it continues in the home. Therefore, if you and I work together, your child will have a stronger foundation of learning. We do not have homework at the current time, but we will start soon. Look for more information to come! |
||||||||||||||
| BIRTHDAYS: Birthdays are special! We love celebrating birthdays by singing at school, getting a birthday pencil, and wearing a birthday sticker. However, we can not have birthday "parties" during the day and we ask that you do not send food for the class on your child's birthday. Thanks for your cooperation. Also, in order not to hurt feelings, please mail birthday invitations unless inviting the whole class. | ||||||||||||||
REPORT CARDS:
We are on a 9 week
grading period. Both formal and informal conferences will be held
during the school year. Our grading system is as follows:
Progress reports will be sent home during mid-grading periods. (Except for the 1st 9 weeks) Progress reports need to be signed and returned within 2 days of being sent home. |

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL:
Students may come into the cafeteria for breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Breakfast ends at 7:55 a.m. After breakfast, or if your child does not eat
breakfast at school, students will all sit in their class row in the
gymnasium where we will then meet and have announcements.
All Kinder-2nd grade students who are car riders will be picked up on the West side of the building. Walkers will also be dismissed in the same spot. Day care students will leave from the gym and all “After the Bell” participants will meet in the cafeteria. |
||||||||||||||
| THURSDAY FOLDER: The folder your child brought home the first day is their “Thursday folder” or “Landry folder.” This folder will come home every Thursday full of class and school information as well as your child’s work. Please return this folder every Friday. | ||||||||||||||
| MEALS: Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends 7:55 a.m. Lunch is from 11:30-12:00. The best way to pay for your child’s school lunches is through a lunch account, which can be purchased in the cafeteria before school. If your child brings money to the classroom for lunch, I ask that you have it in an envelope labeled with, “your child’s name and Lunch Money”. Also, make it known to your child where the money is and what it is for. Another option is to place money on your child’s account through CFB’s Virtual Cafeteria. There are directions located on the district’s website at www.cfbisd.edu . | ||||||||||||||
| BACKPACKS: Your child will need a backpack large enough to hold your child’s planner, Thursday folder, and library book. Children will bring their backpack to school everyday. If you feel that your child may need a "back-up" set of clothes for unexpected bathroom accidents, please pack a set to be kept in your child’s backpack. | ||||||||||||||
| SCHOOL SUPPLIES: We share everything in Kindergarten. You do not need to label supplies! | ||||||||||||||
|
REST TIME: We do not have naptime in Kindergarten. Therefore, rest mats will not be needed. They will be tired at first (as will their teacher!), so please make sure your child is getting adequate sleep each night! |
||||||||||||||
|
MEDICINE: All medicine must be in the original bottle with a label. Medicine must be kept in the clinic. |
||||||||||||||
|
ILLNESS/ABSENCE: Children must be fever free (without medication) for 24 hours before returning to school. Please call the office (972 968-2100) to let them know when your child is at home ill. A note is required upon the child’s return to school. |
||||||||||||||
| HANDWRITING: The District's has designated the (D’Nelian/Modern Manuscript) handwriting strokes for the primary grades. Please practice this at home as you work with your child. Click here to see D'Nelian/Modern Manuscript. Our handwriting goal for kindergarten is to learn correct strokes. | ||||||||||||||
| BOOK ORDERS: We will be sending home book club orders monthly. I encourage you to order books for your child. This is a wonderful way to share books with your child and also establish a home library. This great opportunity not only lets you buy wonderful books at a reasonable price, but it also earns points to increase our classroom library. | ||||||||||||||
|
TALKING ABOUT SCHOOL: When asking a general question such as, "What did you do today?" or "How was your day?" a child will usually answer, "Oh, nothing," or "We just played." Many times a more specific question will encourage your child to elaborate about the details of his or her day. A specific question might be: "What workstation did you work in today?" Some other good "lead- in" questions are: "What were some of your learning goals today?", "What was your favorite thing about today", "What did you write about today?", and “What stories did you hear today?" It is especially important to remember that children, like adults, have days when they are not talkative. On these days do not press for answers, just wait and try again tomorrow!
PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION: In addition to your child’s planner I welcome any other forms of communication, which are suitable to you. I will hold at least one personal conference with you this year, and will meet with you on a regular basis if need be. You may call me at school at 972-968-2100 during school hours. The best time to reach me is before and after school. Email is also a very effective way to reach me. My email address is stemmermannk@cfbisd.edu Email will be the quickest and most effective communication form. If you have any questions or concerns this school year, please don’t hesitate to contact me! However, if you have immediate information I need to know please send a note and/or call the school since I cannot guarantee I can check/answer emails throughout the school day. A very important contributor to student success is a good parent-teacher relationship. |
