After learning about plants, the class drew and wrote about the process from seed to plant.
Friday, February 22nd the students wrote about their learning about farms. All week we had been taking notes while reading non-fiction books about farms and they used their notebooks while writing.
Friday, February 29th the class wrote about our country. We have been learning about features of non-fiction text including titles. The students were challenged to add a title to their writing. They also did a great job formatting the title by making it bold and changing the font size.
Friday, February 15th the students wrote about simple machines. They had their notes they took after reading non-fiction books about the topic handy so they could remember important facts they learned.
Friday, February 1st the students wrote about what they learned about the weather, animals, and land features in cold places.
Friday, December 21st the class wrote about Christmas!
Friday, December 14th we wrote and drew about children's author and illustrator Jan Brett.
Friday, November 16th the students illustrated and wrote about Thanksgiving. Some chose to write about the first Thanksgiving. Others chose to write that they were thankful for or what their family does to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Friday, October 26 the students illustrated and wrote about their favorite kinds of weather.
Friday, October 19th the students drew and wrote about important jobs people have.
Friday, October 12th Mrs. Springer's 5th grade class taught us how to log on. We now know how to push control-alt-delete and enter our usernames and passwords. Thank you 5th graders! We made groups of numbers 0-5 and labeled the way we made them.
Friday, October 5th we drew, labeled, and wrote about our families.
Friday, September 28th the students' job was to write about something they like. We have learned how to spell the word like so their goal was to spell it correctly in their writing. They did a super job writing a sentence to match their pictures. They are already such good writers after only a month of kindergarten.
Friday, September 21st we used Kid Pix to draw an label the life cycle of an apple. The cycle starts with a seed which grows into a tree. The tree grows buds on it's branches which grow into an apple blossom. The blossom loses it's petals and an apple grows and ripens where the blossom was. Then the cycle begins again with the new seeds from the apple.
Thursday, September 13th we used the rubber stamp tool in Kid Pix to make patterns. The students then labeled the kind of patterns they made.
On September 7th we used Kid Pix to write and draw about school. The students could choose anything about school they wanted to write about. Many of the students tried hard to write words to match their pictures. I always try to underwrite below their phonetic spelling when we publish their work on the web.
We took our first visit to the computer lab on Friday, August 31. The students' task was to use the program Kid Pix to draw themselves and type their names. They did a super job following directions!
