About me

This is my 22nd year at Newman Smith.  I have taught all the Spanish courses offered at Newman Smith:  Spanish I - V, and NS 1-V.  I started the first classes of Spanish for Spanish speakers north of Austin, and I have been teaching Spanish for native speakers for 20 years.  My students have been very successful on the Spanish AP tests:  This past year, 118 students from my classes and Miss Moseley's classes took the AP Spanish Language test, and 110 passed.  11 of my students also took the AP Spanish Literature test, and 8 passed.

My BA is from the University of Iowa, and my MA is from Indiana University.  I have traveled in Mexico, Costa Rica, South America (except for Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador), and in Spain. 

I believe that everyone in Texas needs to learn Spanish, and that educated people should learn another language in addition.  Everyone is capable of learning another language if it is taught well, and if they want to learn.
