Class News

I can’t believe that we are already in our Spring Semester!  The school year is going by so quickly!  During this month we will study the following:

 In Science we will study plants and their basic needs. We will learn about flowering plants as well as plants that produce foods.

In Math we will continue to learn about addition and subtraction. We are practicing to act or draw out solutions to story problems and we are even writing some stories problems of our own.

In Writing we will continue to stretch our words recording the sounds we hear to spell words to write our stories.  We will be working on different styles of writing such as fiction and nonfiction.  The students will continue to use punctuation marks and spacing between words.  Your child should be able to write at least 3 sentences about a picture they draw.

In Reading we also continue to study fiction and nonfiction books.  We are learning the characteristics of both books.  We are learning to recognize the main idea of the stories, the characters, the setting and the author’s purpose.  Be sure to question your child about the stories you read together.  Have your child name the characters, retell the story in his/her own words, name the setting etc.

Important dates:  

Tuesday, April 21-Family Fun Night.  This is a night to bring your family to school and participate in fun games with prizes!

 Some Important Reminders

-Please make sure that your child is completing his/her homework (due on Fridays)

 -Read with your child every night.

-Help your child remember to bring back his/her folders to school everyday.

-Please initial the yellow daily folder each night so I know you have seen it.

-Send your child a healthy snack everyday.

-Every Wednesday is College Day.  We wear college t-shirts to promote higher education.

-Every Friday is Spirit Day.  We wear McKamy t-shirts or purple and white to show our school spirit!
