Sectional Rehearsals

At certain times of year, students in Symphonic and Philharmonic orchestras will be required to attend sectional rehearsals before or after school.  Sectionals are mandatory for UIL preparations and will be counted as summative grades (see Texas Academic Code Section 76.1001).  Additionally, some playing assessments will be administered during sectional times; these tests will also count as summative grades.

Sectionals serve two great purposes:

        Time in a small-group setting where everyone is playing the same part allows for    greater attention to detail in instruction and gives some one-on-one time with every student.

        Class rehearsals with the full orchestra are more productive on group ideas rather than one section getting coached while others fall dormant.

Sectional rehearsals are not much different from before and after school athletic practice: essential to success.  If a student has a major difficulty with the sectional schedule, make-up times will be available.
