Q: Who can apply for the Science/Engineering Pathway? A: Students must reside in Newman Smith attendance zone and must have completed Algebra or higher in the 8th grade Q: When do you enter the program? A: Your freshman year. Q: How do you enter the program? A: Complete the application and recommendation forms and return them to your counselor in the spring of the 8th grade. Q: How is this program different from an academy? A: It differs in several ways: It is curriculum-driven. That means that students in the program are in classes with students who are not in the program. It is only available to students in the Newman Smith attendance zone. There isn't a director, only lead teachers. Q: What courses could I take? A: In addition to the required courses for graduation: Recommended Sciences: PreAP Biology, Chemistry and Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and/or Computer Science I; Recommended Math: PreAP Geometry, PreAP Algebra II, PreAP Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, College Algebra and/or AP Statistics; Suggested Electives: Engineering Graphics, Architectural Graphics, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science AB, and/or Technology Internship Program (TIP).
