Spelling lists are assigned to children based on their understanding of word formation.  The lists consist of words that can be sorted by two or more spelling patterns.  The Lessons build on what the child knows and introduces new skills in a sequential order. Some spelling words will appear on the list for more than one week. The intentions of the program are for students to analyze words and link unknown words to familiar words as they attempt to decode words in reading and integrate new words into their writing.

Students will have access to an interactive web page that will provide games, practice and the ability to take an online test.  The web site will allow students to choose their word list and practice words independently.  Feedback is automatic and students have the opportunity to correct their mistakes.  The spelling lists can be accessed through www.spellingcity.com.

Students will take a test on their words each Friday.  If a child scores below a 70% on the Friday test I will offer the opportunity for the child to retake the test on the following Wednesday morning at 7:30. This is the child's responsibility to come in and take the test.  I will not require students to retest and will only retest once a week. Below is a link to each of the word lists for the week.
