Pink On the Square - Walk for Breast Cancer

 

On Saturday, September 29th, the Leadership Academy along with their families and many Sheffield teachers, walked in downtown Carrollton for Breast Cancer.  Thanks to the hard work and donations from the Leadership Academy students and our community; the academy donated $1265.00 to the foundation.  We had well over 100 participants from our school.  Great Job Sheffield Community!

 

 

Red Ribbon Rally - Austin, Texas

All members of the 5th grade Leadership Academy were invited to attend the Red Ribbon Rally in Austin, Texas on October 18, 2007.  We got to march to the capital with other students from around Texas to promote Drug Awareness.  We then got to tour the capital and placed a bill we made up for adoption.

 

 

Trinity Medical Center - Mad for Magazines!

Leadership Academy students delivered magazines to Trinity Medical Center on Saturday, October 27th.  Students collected over 800 magazines for use by the patients and families of Trinity Medical Center.

unicef campaign

Through out the month of October, the leadership academy accepted donations for Unicef.  Each representative and homeroom class, collect change for this special program.  The school collected $805.82 with Mr. Guillot's homeroom class collecting the most.  Hiep Nguyen in Mr. Guillot's homeroom collected $87.32 on his own. 

 

 Can food drive

The can food drive for the North Texas Food Bank was a huge success.  Our goal was 3 cans per student at Sheffield.  We are happy to say we surpassed this goal and donated a total of 1,886 cans to the food bank.  We are extremely proud of our children, families, and community for their work in this effort.

 

"Bear hugs"

Throughout the month of January, the leadership academy collected new stuff bears for the Trinity Medical Center.  These "bear hugs" are going to be given to the children that come in for surgery at Trinity Medical hospital.  One week after our donation, a friend of a leadership academy student was at Trinity and received one of our bears.  What a warm happy feeling it is to know that our efforts made a child a little less afraid.

Posey Leadership Institute (Austin College Trip)

On Monday, January 28th the Leadership Academy took its first field trip and traveled to Sherman, Texas to visit the Posey Leadership Institute at Austin College.  Our visit was coordinated by Dr. Pete DeLisle.  We had a day of study with students from the college on leadership.

Bucks for Books!

The Leadership Academy hosted its second annual Bucks for Books: A walk for the Cause, a prize walk to raise money to purchase books for the patients at Children's Medical Center of Dallas.  On saturday, April 12, the academy went to Barnes & Noble and purchased our books and on May 5th the representatives from Children's Medical Center, Ms. Rathna Gray and M. Crystal Wilkins, came and picked them up.
