September 7th, Professor Mark Pitts from Brookhaven College and a certified Franklin Covey facilitator visited us to define “leadership.”

According to Professor Pitts,
 
“Any good leader must first know how to lead.

 as long as one is willing to work hard
 to achieve them.

            

Mr. Marlon Dawson and Mr. Jermaine Gambrell visited the academy on November 2nd.  Though these men work at different companies and in different fields, their takes on leadership were very similar.
Both leaders stressed the importance of
education and commitment.

Mrs. Helen Dorsey, Cadbury Schweppes Americas

visited us on December 7, 2006. 
According to Mrs. Dorsey, “One cannot be a good leader until
he or she has been a good follower.”

 

 

Assistant Chief Mac Tristan, Carrollton Police Department
visited us on January 11, 2007
Assistant Chief Tristan shared that good leaders always have a fall back plan. He also shared that one should always be prepared for leadership. Opportunities to lead should never catch one
 off guard!
 

                           

For its February meeting, (with no major weather problems), the Leadership Academy was both relieved and excited to welcome its favorite meteorologist to Sheffield Intermediate, Mr. Greg Fields. Mr. Fields shared a very personal story with the student leaders, one which would cause them to challenge adversity and to follow their dreams.

According to Mr. Fields,
 
“Sometimes the best lessons In leadership come from the exhibit of poor leadership. Good leaders learn what not to do!”

 

 

 

As our lecture series officially came to an end, Rev. Michael Piazza, founder of Hope for Peace and Justice, served as our final speaker of the school year.  The student leaders learned “The 4 C’s of leadership.”
