Motto: Leaders do when others don't!

Theme for 2008-2009 school year:
"From Me to We!"
|
What we're about:
The Sheffield Intermediate
Leadership Academy was founded in August, 2006, in an effort to put a "face"
on leadership and to allow students the opportunity to both study and
practice servant leadership in their community. The academy consists of a
select group of students in grades 3-5 who exhibit leadership potential, who
maintain "passing" grades, and who are willing to serve others.
On the first Thursday of each
month the academy is visited by a local leader who explains his or
her take on leadership and who generates discussion among the
students. The speaker's intent is raising awareness of new career
opportunities, developing personal leadership skills, and inspiring
students to practice servant leadership. Time for reflection and additional
discussion follows each meeting.
The motto of the Leadership
Academy is "Leaders do when others
don't!," and the Leadership Academy has certainly
done just that! During the 2006-08 school year, the Leadership
Academy sponsored a canned food drive, a magazine drive, Pink
on the Square (walk for Cancer), Bear Hugs (Teddy Bears collected
for Trinity Medical Center) and a prize
walk--all of which helped others and generated local press. These
same events and a few new ones are planned for the 2008-09 school
year.
