Length = 4" min., 6" max.
Width = 2" min., 2 ½" max.
Height = 1" min., no max.
4 magnets - no more, no less
Distance from front of front magnet to back of back magnet = 4" min., 6" max.
Magnet size = 1" x ¾" x 1/8"
The magnets are special ceramic magnets that have north and south poles on the surfaces, not the ends.
- Lift is an upward acting force.
- Weight (gravity) is a downward acting force.
- Thrust is a forward acting force.
- Drag is a rearward acting force.
- Acceleration is the force involved in overcoming inertia.
- An airfoil is any surface designed to obtain a reaction from the air through which it moves.
- Relative wind is the direction of airflow produced by an object moving through the air.
- Speed is the distance traveled in a certain time.
- Parasite drag is the resistance of the air produced by any part of the object that does not produce lift.
- If speed is doubled, four times as much drag is produced.
- Maximum of two people per team, the team will make one vehicle for the team.
- The vehicle shall be designed and built so that it fits behind the starting block. No part of the vehicle shall extend in front of the starting block while the vehicle is at rest at the starting line.
- Any materials are acceptable, including cardboard, paper, foam board, plastics, balsa wood.
- Sling shot or push vehicles are not allowed.
- No CO2 cartridges, compressed air, rocket engines, or model airplane engines are allowed.
- System must operate free of human control or interference other than initial set up.
- Contest winners will achieve the lowest elapsed time from start to finish.
- Graphic designs are allowed (numbers, letters, pictures, etc.) within normal school guidelines. A vehicle with inappropriate graphics
