Kathy Schneiderwind 6th / 7th / 8th grade ART
A note to Parents Hi! my name is Kathleen Schneiderwind and I am the Art teacher at DeWitt Perry. This is my 12th year at Perry and I am very proud to teach at this school. I began my teaching career in 1969 and this is the best school that I have ever taught at. I've taught all levels of school and many things besides Art. I've been married for almost 33 years and we have 2 grown sons. My Mother lives with us and is a frequent volunteer at Perry. I look forward to meeting many of you. Your children are a joy to me and I thank you for the opportunity to work with them. CLASS Schedule 1st period - Pre AP 2nd period - Professional Development 3rd period - 6th grade 4th period - Foundations 5th period - Foundations 6th period - Planning Period 7th period - 6th Grade Art 6th Grade Art 6th grade art is a semester class. We study the Elements of Art, with emphasis on color. We do a large unit on clay and learn how to do pinch, coil and slab techniques. Now we are working on bookmarks to use in SSR. They should do a non-objective design using the 5 directions of line. When we finish our design I will teach the students how to make a tassel to go to the bottom of the bookmark. We will begin clay in 2 weeks. We are going to make a plaque using a heart motif in times for Valentines Day. The rest of the semester we will do projects that help the students understand the Elements of Art.
Foundations We are currently finishing up a project in Perspective Drawing. We have learned how to do 1 and 2 point Perspective. Now they are doing arches, windows and doors, bricks, streets and signs. This is not easy for them. Next I will briefly cover drawing using modified 4 basic shapes of square, circle, cylinder and triangle. That is in preparation for teaching Styles of Art. They will select one photo and enlarge some section of it. They will draw it 3 times. One time will be done in realistic style, once in abstract and one in non-objective. Some time around Spring Break we will do our clay project.
Pre- AP Art We are finishing up our plasticine clay heads. They are very difficult and the students are struggling with the techniques needed to create a realistic bust. This semester we will be doing our ceiling tiles and printmaking unit. Ceiling tiles involve selecting an artist's work and recreating to on a ceiling tile. They really learn color mixing and matching with this project.
