Mustang News

The story of a struggle against tremendous odds; a journey of personal courage; and how legends are born and grow in the minds of all of us.

In December our PE classes pretend we are reindeer playing in games and activities like flying, leaping, galloping, snow ball deflection, toy catching, dodging, rooftop hopping, eye-hoof coordination, and sleigh pulling.

The legend was written as a booklet in 1939 by Robert May an advertising employee of Montgomery Wards. 2.4 million copies were handed to children of the time and Rudolf's story spread like wild fire.

In 1949, Gene Autry sang a musical version of the poem and it was a run-away best-seller.

The Legend of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But, do you recall,
The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas eve
Santa came to say,
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee,
"Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer,
You'll go down in history!"

An Ancient Tale of  the Legend of Rudolf, by David Soubly.
