The R.L. Turner Lions swept Fort Worth Northside in its Season Home-Opener Monday Night winning all 3 games----opening up with a 9th grade win, and ending with a Varsity victory!  The Sweep began with the 9th grade score of 57-11. The night continued with the J.V. scoring 54 points to only 17 points scored by Northside.   The Varsity closed the victorious night with a 60 point game and held Northside to only 29 points. The Lions will be facing Irving Nimitz Friday night at Home @ 6:00/7:30pm.  We hope to see you there.  Thank you for your continued support.

 

There will be absence make-ups today in the library from 2:45 - 4:15.  You will be able to make up 2 sessions.  There is no charge.  Students must have an ID badge, homework, and attendance printout.

 

Any sophomore exec members who would like to be in a yearbook photo need to come to Ms. Beverage’s room, C213 at 2:35 today. 

 

Anyone interested in being a member of the 2010 R.L. Turner Boys Track and Field team needs to meet with Coach McFee in the Foyer by the Gym today at 2:45.

 

If you still don’t have any plans for next summer, you should join us on a 10-day trip next summer to Costa Rica!  Come for an informational meeting TONIGHT at 6:30 p.m. in the library.  Please see Ms. Weng in Room A205 for more information.

Sophomores, there is a mandatory meeting for all officers and all general committee members for Sophomore Exec this Friday in Ms. Beverage’s room, C213 at 2:45.

 

Game club will meet on Friday in room E96.  We will meet from 2:30 to 4:00 PM.

 

The Cosmetology Students will be doing the hair and makeup for the Creekview Fine Arts performances of the musical Oklahoma!  this Thursday through Sunday, November 19th through the 22nd. 

 

Would you like to be a hero and save lives?  This coming Friday, November 20th from 8:00-1:30 in the BioMed wing, Turner will be hosting a blood drive with Carter Blood Care.  Come by, donate blood, and save three lives in the process! To sign up, look for a BioMed HOSA student at the blood drive table in the cafeteria.  See Dr. Kloss in the BioMed wing if any questions. 

 

Juniors and Seniors: An admissions representative from TWU will be here this Thursday, November 19 and one from UTA will be here this Friday, November 20. If you are interested please come down and sign up in the Counseling Office so you can attend their sessions.

Also, Seniors if you are applying to UT Austin or Texas A&M, their admission deadline is December 15 and their Scholarship deadline is December 1. SMU’s and TCU’s admission deadline is in January so hurry and apply before it’s too late!

 

ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS- CIS & PRIDE NEEDS YOU!!!

Join us in reducing the drop-out rate at Turner by signing up to mentor your peers. Use this opportunity to gain community service hours and to help make Turner the best it can be! We need 80-100 juniors and seniors to sign up- that means we need YOU!!!

TWU is having a Bilingual Open House on Saturday, November 21. They will have a drawing for $1,000 to go toward tuition!  There will be information sessions on admissions, financial aid, housing, student life, a bilingual student panel, and a campus tour. Seniors don’t forget about the Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship. If you have a GPA of at least a 3.3 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities, see Mr. Reyes for more information about the GMS scholarship.

 

Tennis tryouts for the Spring season will be held December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from 2:45 until 4:30.  All players who are trying-out will need a completed physical prior to December 1st.  Please see Coach Fair in room C105 or Coach Myrick in room B212 for all paperwork.  We look forward to seeing you on the courts. 

 

If you are interested in trying out for the girls' soccer team, try-outs will be held the three days after Thanksgiving break.  To try out you must have a copy of a completed physical.  You can get a physical form from Coach Day in C202 or Coach Maher in C208.

 

The last day to order a yearbook will be Friday, December 11th.  We only order yearbooks for people who make a deposit, so if you want one this year, bring your $30 deposit!  You may make a deposit in the Main Office. Total cost is $62.  You may pay by cash or check at school, or you may go online to pay with a credit card at www.myyear.com

 

College tutorials have begun again, and we guarantee your grades will go up if you attend. Tutors from Brookhaven College are available from 3:00-5:00 on every Tuesday and Thursday. We have three new tutors with expertise in math, as well as bilingual tutors. If absences are approved for make-up this is one way to make up absences. We look forward to seeing you there.
