High School Counseling
Program
It is the goal of
the R. L. Turner High School Counseling Department to meet with students
on an individual and/or small group basis to enhance students personal,
social and educational milestones. Each year, we will be working
with students to address pertinent issues related to their current grade
level.
Freshmen
Year
Ninth grade is a
critical point in a student's high school career and in order to help our
freshmen transition successfully from middle school to high school, they are teamed. Our goal is to increase the number of students who earn
enough credits in 9th grade to be promoted to 10th grade with the
longer-range goal of graduating from high school in four years.
In the fall, students will map out their high school years and
create a 4 Year Plan. Freshmen will meet with
their counselor in the spring and select their sophomore courses.
Sophomore
Year
This is the year students begin to focus on their
Future Career Choices. Students
will be reassigned a counselor and that counselor will be getting
acquainted with students through interviews.
Much of that time
will be spent on career and college
preparation.
Other topics
to be discussed include helpful web sites,
Junior Registration and
SAT/ACT Preparation.
Junior
Year
The junior counselor will be conducting
interviews in the
spring to meet the individual needs of the student and answer
questions as they narrow their focus in
Career
Choices. Topics include:
Resume Writing, ACT,
SAT, Letters of Recommendation,
meeting with college representatives, college
readiness and other tips on Registering and
preparing for your Senior Year.
Senior
Year
This is the year students make definitive plans
for life beyond high school.
The senior Counselor will be meeting with students in early fall to discuss completing high school requirements and making future
plans.
