Terrestrial Environments

 
Day 1

Students will begin the Terrestrial Environment lab.  Students will plan for their terrariums by making a map. Students will discuss gardens and terrariums. Students will learn about germination, biotic, abiotic, and environmental factors within their terrariums.

Day 2

Students will make observations of terrariums day 1 and record their data.  Students will read about Plant Survival in Science books, pages 18-27. Students will complete the worksheet Plant Survival.   Students will focus on the parts of a plant - root, stem, and leaf.

Day 3

Students will watch a video about the parts of plants and take notes.  They will label the parts of a plant using diagrams.  Students will write the vocabulary words in their science spirals.

Day 4

Students will make observations of terrariums day 2 and record their data.  Students will listen to the book How Seeds Travel by Jane Moncure.  Students will discuss different ways that seeds travel and take notes on the different types of travelers. They will also read an article titled How Do Seeds Scatter and Grow?; students will highlight important facts in the article.

Day 5

Students will make observations of terrariums day 3 and record their data. Students will read pages 30-39 Making Food in their science books.   Students will add photosynthesis and respiration to their plant vocabulary page and complete worksheet Making Food

Day 6

Students will observe their terrariums and record their data.  Students will watch a video titled "Water Cycle and Clouds", they will take notes and answer questions on worksheets from the video.    Students will create a water cycle using pages 126-127.  They will label, draw, and color a diagram of the water cycle.

Day 7

Students will observe their terrariums and record their data.  Students will read Clouds of Water and Ice pages 120-129 in their science books.  Students will write water cycle vocabulary words and complete worksheets about the water cycle.

CW-Observations of terrariums and read Clouds of Water and Ice, begin working on worksheets.
