Shape : Organic and
Geometric Watercolor
After
discussing the difference between organic and geometric shapes,
students viewed examples of modern artwork which rely heavily upon
shapes in their composition. Students then created abstract watercolor
paintings using geometric and organic shapes.
Line : Van Gogh
Drawings
Students
identified characteristics of Vincent Van Gogh's paintings and applied
his use of line and color to imply movement and rhythm.
2D Design - Benefit
Concert Posters
After learning
about the artist's role as a social critic, students were allowed to
choose a particular issue they were concerned about and then design a
poster promoting an upcoming concert benefiting the cause.
Still-Life Drawing -
Mosaic
Students drew a
still-life from observation and then divided their paper in to four
parts. Each part was the addressed using different techniques
(drawing, collage, watercolor, etc).
Grid Drawing - Master
Works
Students
recreated drawings of master paintings using grids and then painted
the individual squares in different colors.
Contour Drawing -
Sign Language Hands
Using letters
from their name or their initials, students drew their hands making
those letters in sign language. Watercolors were applied to the hand
drawings which were then cut out and placed on another page along with
the letters their hands are making.
Contour Wire Sculpture
After
practicing contour drawings (blind and semi-blind) from small objects
in class, the Pre-AP students went to observe orchestra students and created
single-line contour drawings. They created these wire sculptures based
on the drawings they created.
