Highlights and Accolades
General Information
·
Special
interest clubs such as Ecology, Club Med, United Nations, Step Team,
Crime Stoppers, Leo’s (in partnership with the Lions Club) FCA, Art, and
Theater are active at RHS.
·
Academic
competitions are offered in speech/debate, writing, history, math,
science and many other academic subjects.
·
An SAT/ACT
preparation course is provided free of charge during the school day and
on Saturdays.
·
A
partnership with the Dallas County Community Colleges promotes college
preparation and includes courses that award credit at both the college
and high school levels.
·
Student
leadership opportunities are available with the Student Council, Class
Executive Committees, Peer Mediation, Crime Stoppers, PAACK, and our
Community Service elective.
·
We field
competitive athletic teams in volleyball, football, golf, tennis, track,
cross country, baseball, softball, hockey and swimming/diving.
·
The
National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, Tri-M (Music) and Mu Alpha
Theta (Math) honor societies are active on our campus.
·
The class
of 2007 earned $1.8 million in scholarships for post secondary
educational opportunities.
·
RHS earned
full accreditation and an exemplary designation from the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
·
RHS
athletes advanced to regional or state competition in golf, boys
basketball, and swimming/diving.
Academic Decathlon
·
The
Academic Decathlon team placed 8th in the state competition.
Baseball
·
One player received an
honorable mention, three players were selected to the 2nd
team, and four players were selected to the 1st team for
District 11-3A.
Softball
·
Two team members were
selected as Players of the Year in their respective positions for
District 11-3A.
·
Two players were selected
to each of the 1st and 2nd All-District teams.
Girls
Basketball
·
One player was chosen for
the All-District 1st team and one player was selected as the
All-District Defensive Player of the Year.
Cheerleaders
·
Six Superior ribbons and
two spirit sticks were awarded during summer competition.
·
Six ladies were nominated
for the All-American Cheerleader award.
·
The team was invited to
perform at the NCA National Cheerleading competition in Dallas.
Orchestra
·
We had three students make
the All-Region Orchestra, with the competition including schools from
Carrollton, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Frisco, Southlake, Grapevine and
Colleyville High Schools.
·
Sixteen students earned
performance medals at District and UIL Solo and Ensemble Contests.
·
Two students advanced and
earned recognition at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin.
·
Both the Symphonic and
Concert Orchestras received Sweepstakes Awards at the UIL Concert and
Sight Reading Contest.
·
The Festival Orchestra
received Division I Best in Class and Best of Festival Trophies at the
2007 Buccaneer Music Festival in Corpus Christi.
Choir
·
The Varsity Choir earned a
Superior rating in the Concert and Sight Reading competition.
Band
·
One student was selected
as a member of the Las Colinas Symphony Youth Orchestra.
·
The marching band earned
an Excellent rating in the UIL Marching Contest, 3rd place in
the Frisco March of Champions, and the Mayor’s Award in the Carrollton
Christmas Parade.
·
19 students were selected
for the All-Region Band, six for the All-Area Band, and one was chosen
for the prestigious All-State Band.
·
In the first year of
competition in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, 10 band members earned
Superior ratings and one earned an Excellent rating.
·
The Varsity Band earned a
1st Division, Superior, rating in the Concert and Sight
Reading competition.
Art
·
RHS had the highest number
of students of any CFB school compete and earn statewide recognition in
the annual VASE art competition.
Student
Council
·
We hosted a successful
Spirit Week with hallway decorations, a spirit walk, and a dance.
·
We sponsored the first RHS
homecoming parade for our feeder elementary schools and the community.
·
Our community service
efforts included:
o
Making over 1000
sandwiches for the Soup Mobile, a local homeless assistance program
o
Raising over $800 for the
American Lung Association
o
Raising almost $400 for
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
o
Holding RHS’ first ever
drug and alcohol awareness program titled “Every 20 Minutes.”
