School
Annual Report to the Community
Established in 2002, Ranchview High School is the newest of our
district’s high schools and serves students in the Irving, Las
Colinas, Valley Ranch, and Coppell areas of our school
district. After only six years, RHS is already known for providing
challenging academic courses, impressive fine arts programs, and
competitive athletic teams.
The Ranchview community includes 780 students and 79 professional staff
with an average class size of 22 students. With such a small
student-teacher ratio, individual attention is guaranteed at RHS.
Because we are a small, comprehensive high school within a large
suburban school district, we are able to provide opportunities for
students that many other schools cannot. Students at RHS are encouraged
to become involved in extracurricular clubs and activities and join our
award winning performing arts groups and athletic teams. At RHS, there
is a place for all students to explore their gifts and perfect their
talents.
The Ranchview staff is committed to offering an instructional program
that is rigorous, relevant and prepares our students to compete in a
global economy. We are the only high school in Carrollton-Farmers Branch
to be authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to
offer the IB Diploma Programme, and we anticipate being among the first
100 schools in North America to be authorized to offer the Middle Years
Programme as well. In tandem with Barbara Bush Middle School, we are
entering a unique partnership that aligns our instruction in grades 6-12
to ensure that our graduates not only have a competitive edge when
applying to college, but that they also become more reflective thinkers
and effective communicators.
The high level of instructional challenge is seen in the wide array of
Pre-Diploma, IB, and AP courses offered at Ranchview. These include
Physics, Biology, Visual Art, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science,
Calculus, History of the Americas, English, French, Spanish, and the
unique IB Theory of Knowledge course. Additionally, partnerships with
Northlake and Brookhaven Colleges, Texas Tech University, and The
University of Texas allow our students to earn college credits while
still enrolled in high school. College credits earned through IB/AP or
dual enrollment work are not only applicable toward college degrees, but
represent significant financial savings for our students. In addition to
this tuition savings, our third graduating class of 150 students
received over $1.2 million in scholarships. Two RHS students were also
selected for National Merit commendations in our second year of
eligibility because our college preparatory curriculum enabled them to
earn high scores on the PSAT and SAT/ACT college entrance exams. The
academic rigor of the instructional program at RHS has prepared our
students to continue their academic careers at many nationally respected
universities including Stanford, Duke, Johns Hopkins, SMU, TCU, the
University of Texas, and Texas A&M.
In the performing arts, students produce numerous concerts, plays,
and musicals each year. Each of our performing groups includes members
who are also active in highly competitive city and regional level
choirs, bands, dance and theater troupes, and orchestras. We are also
the home to championship athletic teams. Our varsity volleyball,
softball, baseball, and boys and girls basketball, track, tennis, and
golf teams represented us in the playoffs with boys basketball, golf,
tennis, and boys and girls track teams earning 11-3A District Champion
honors.
