Black Boxes

Day 1 Students will make observations of sealed black boxes to determine what is inside.  They will develop models and reach a consensus with other students.  Students will watch the power point on the black box lab.

Day 2 Students will construct models of black boxes to replicate the behavior of the original black boxes.

Day 3  Students will finish constructing models of black boxes and finish their lab reports.  Read Science Stories:  Everyday Mysteries and Scientists and Models.  Discuss and take notes.

Day 4  Students will begin lab report on The Drought Stopper.  Students will observe a device that produces 500 ml of water when only 100 ml of water is put in.  They will draw a model and explain how they think the device works.

Day 5  Students will finish The Drought Stopper lab report.  They will finish observations and conclusions.  Read and discuss Science Stories:  Life on Earth 150 Million Years Ago.  Students will view a video titled How Do You Know? Make A Model. Students will learn how models are used in the real world.
