Car Line Rules Keep Children Safe and Accidents from Occurring
It is important that we all cooperate in keeping our children safe and in preventing accidents by following the school rules involving car line procedures. These rules apply to both the north side line and the east side line.
Move all the way up to the white line. Do not stop until you reach the white line or the car in front of you. Wide gaps slow down the line for everyone. All of the children want to get to class on time. Most parents in line have somewhere they need to be in the morning.
Never get out of the car in the car line. Do not get out to assist your children or to retrieve backpacks from the trunk. Keep everything the children need next to them in the vehicle and allow the children to get out of the car on their own. If they are not able to do this, you will need to park in a parking space and walk your child across.
Do not go around other vehicles. Proceed through the line properly. Going around other cars could result in an automobile accident. Additionally, our teachers, sometimes with their own children, are walking across, and if you are hurrying to get ahead, you may not see them in time to avoid hitting them. Leave earlier to avoid rushing.
Children must exit vehicles on the right side by the curb. Children who get out on the left may be hit by those parents not following the rule about staying in line. Never drive through the left lane and stop to let your child out next to the car line. This practice is extremely dangerous.
Children who are in K-2 should enter in the north entrance. This is the safest place for them to enter.
Please be mindful that shaving off a couple of minutes dropping your children off is not worth the risk of injury or accident. Be a role model for your children by following the safety rules.
