This is a great topic. Our school is facing this question. We have been high performing for many years. Our population is changing greatly. I agree with Carol. A Master Teacher will be able to rise above whatever situation and of the classes. Several years ago D Magazine ranked the schools in the DFW area - 3 of the top 5 were from low socio-economic areas. A good friend of my worked for the school that was ranked number 4. She says that they very little parental support and many of the students don't have all the supplies or even nice new books to read. The teacher's work very hard to provide a culture that foster's learning. Barbara
