I really liked the three layered approach to setting the culture of the classroom. I teach a mixed grade PAS classroom. I have a wide range of abilities. This concept applies to all of my kids, not just my GT kids. I am really good at offering Agency. That is the ony way I can balance the differing expectations I have for each individual child. I work VERY hard to provide collaboration for social and academic reasons. I have to admit, I am not good at having my students reflect. Monday, I introduced a jar with the different questions in the book (ie what did I learn? How did I learn that?...). I decided at the end of each teach time, I am going have one student draw a question and answer it. We had a rough start. The kids didn't really understand what I wanted. Today we had success. I got a really good answer from one of my students. We will build from their but this has helped me with the way I question the kids during the lesson. It has also provided valuable feedback about the thought process for one of my students I have been struggling to get through to.
