Dana, I think it is very important that kids "know who you are" as a person along with who you are as a teacher. My kids love hearing stories about my family, pets, and things I like. I bet you could ask anyone in our class what my favorite color is, how many dogs I have and their names, how many kids I have . . . They were so excited when they named their scarecrow Mr. Murphy and the real Mr. Murphy wrote them an email! I think by knowing you on a personal level they have a special connection with you that will always stay with them as they grow older.
