To me the section on feedback, p. 25, relates really well to what we know in our district about Marzano's nine strategies. Marzano says that providing feedback increases student achievement. He is talking about all students, but as I have read Chapter 2, I believe the authors of this book are saying that their strategies, like Marzano's, are effective with all children. It helps me to relate easier when I know that what I learn can be used across all ranges of academic ability. I specifically like the reference to "Specific and Clear". Those two adjectives are so important when I am helping students to show improvement in their work. If I am too vague in what I want the child to do, he will continue to make the same mistakes over and over. Finding time to meet one on one with every student for every activity is not possible, but it is so important to make time to meet with students individually as often as possible. This allows students the opportunity to grow without having to share the growth with an entire group of children.
