Page 25, Second paragraph--- In the author's discussion of high expectations he emphasizes providing opportunities for choices so that students can "surprise us". It is the GT student who many times creates a surprising product or adapts an activity in a creative way......one that I could not have designed if I had stayed up all night! My concern with all the academic emphasis on test scores is that teacher's seem to have little time in class to allow for the GT students. They need separate work/activities but what I see happening sometimes is a last minute plan to offer something in the GT curriculum just to say it was done. Can't GT students be challenged to think/create/evaluate using the standard curriculum without making teachers think they need to reinvent something separately for them?
