Greg, Class size definitely has a role in student achievement, especially with GT students. Many think that because GT students are so bright, the class size could be higher because they need less direct teaching. I would argue this point because it is the GT student who needs that individual attention and time to discuss and contemplate answers. As far as deciding on an optimal class size; I can tell you that from my own personal experience, the year I had 31 fifth graders in my homeroom....all day..... left me totally drained because I spent the whole day trying to keep order.....it was a nightmare.(of course, that was before testing way back in the "80's) Regards, Carol
