After reading the first quote on page 18 and then reading further on page 21 and the author's remarks concerning collaboration, I am left with this thought. Wouldn't class size (number of students) influence the effective range of variety of learners? For instance, it seems to me that a smaller class size would best lend itself to accommodate a wider range of learners, from the extreme G/T child to the student with the most “severe disabilities”. Certainly a teacher could more effectively address the needs of every child simply because there would more time for individual attention. But, on the other hand, smaller class sizes might negatively affect the opportunities for collaboration as discussed a little later in this chapter. I wonder what the optimum class size truly is. And is 22 a little higher or a lot higher number than the optimum? On a side note completely off the subject—it really bugs me that there is no spell check on this board! And secondly, is any one else finding the British spelling and phrasing to be a bit of a “speed bump” as they read? :-)
