SYLLABUS FOR SPANISH I

TEXT BOOK: Exprésate!

This is not a "book driven" course. Students must maintain a binder dedicated to only Spanish in order to maximize the enhanced instruction offered by the Newman Smith Spanish Department. Emphasis is on Oral Production, which, in turn, generates grammar refinement.

CAPÍTULO 1: ¡Empecemos!

• ask someone's name and say yours
• ask how someone is and say how are you
• introduce people and say where they are from
• give phone numbers, the time, the date, and the day
• spell words and give e-mail addresses

CAPÍTULO 2: A conocernos

• describe people
• ask someone's age and birthday
• talk about what you and others like
• describe things

CAPÍTULO 3: ¿Qué te gusta hacer?

• talk about what you and others like to do
• talk about everyday activities
• say how often you do things

CAPÍTULO 4:  La Vida Escolar

• say what you have and need
• talk about classes
• talk about plans
• invite others to do things and respond

CAPÍTULO 5: En casa con la familia

• describe people and family relationships
• talk about where you and others live
• talk about your responsibilities

CAPÍTULO 6: ¡A comer!

• comment on food
• make polite requests
• talk about meals
• offer help and give instructions

CAPÍTULO 7: Cuerpo sano, mente sana

• talk about your daily routine
• talk about staying fit and healthy
• talk about how you feel
• give advice
