All About Me

I am so excited to be starting my
eighth year at Furneaux. Being a native
Texan, I love teaching Texas history which is the focus for 4th grade Social
Studies. I have been teaching 4th grade for 15 years in the district.
I was raised in Tyler, about 100 miles east of Carrollton. I
am from a large family having six brothers and sisters. Some of you may
know my twin brother, Mr. Mayfield, who is an Assistant Principal at Creekview.
I graduated from SFA long ago with a degree in Home Economics. I married my
husband Ed, who is also from Tyler, and we had three boys. When all of
them were in school, I went back to school to become certified to teach
elementary education and early childhood. I thought I wanted to teach
kindergarten, but got my first job at Farmers Branch Elementary teaching fourth
grade. I fell in love with the kids at this age. It is so exciting
watching the changes that take place in fourth grade. The students move
towards independence which is a goal we work hard on.
In my spare time I love to read. Reading is so
important, as it effects all subjects in school. My favorite type of books are
mysteries. I also enjoy crafts, sewing, cooking and movies.
I look forward to having a great year with my new
class!
