Explanation of the Different Orchestras at Ted
Polk Orchestra Student Officers 2008-2009 |
HISTORY of the MIGHTY Ted Polk
Orchestra: Opening in 1997, Ted Polk Middle School is named after Mr. Ted Polk. Before he passed away, he was the Director of Fine Arts in the CFBISD for many years, and was also a choir director at R.L. Turner. The CFBISD and Ted Polk Middle School is known around the state for a wonderful fine arts department. The Ted Polk Middle School Orchestra has consistently received the highest ratings at UIL Concert & Sightreading Contests as well as high ratings at numerous regional competitions. |
| We have over 250 students involved in orchestra at Ted Polk Middle School. The directors strongly believe that orchestra teaches students much more than just how to play their instrument. Being in a class like orchestra gives kids self confidence, self discipline, self motivation, practice in goal setting, cooperation, and teamwork. We take pride in knowing that orchestra students are among the highest achieving students in school. Educational research has shown that students who are involved in extra and co-curricular activities perform at a consistently higher academic level, and have higher levels of self esteem. The Texas All-State Orchestra has an average SAT score of 1390!! | |
