Phase IV

City's Modified Trail

Some problems with property boundaries have made the old trail imperfect.

Mr. Combs of the city of Carrollton Texas came to us with what the city thought the trail should look like, then we fixed the maps of the trail and moved the lines of it to fit into the property boundaries that we now had to work with.

We must revise our original plans to fit the property boundaries.

4-H Partnership

The proposed trail is next to a neighborhood and an apartment complex.  We believe that the trail will have a long lasting effect on the community because it will be a popular place for families and children to visit.  We also hope that in the future Ted Polk’s 4-H club will be able to add on to this habitat and create new habitats along the trail and maybe even closer to the creek.

Modified & Prioritized Amenities

There was not enough money to put all the amenities in at once so we had to prioritize our amenities so that the city would know what we thought should come first and what things could wait until later.

Solar Lighting [external link] SRP for Model SL$2,170.00 + shipping (not including a pole)

Solar 911 Phones [external link] SRP $5,259

Solar Emergency Call Box

[external link] (local company)

Quote (turnkey) $4,138.80

We chose solar items because they may cost more up front, but they are less and more efficient in the long run.

Trail Blazing Event

People were invited to attend our “Trail Blazing Community Event”, Saturday, February 25, 2006 from 9 am to noon at the greenbelt located on the NW corner of Frankford Road and Josey Lane. There were city officials, school officials, community members (including geocachers), parents, and students, including this year’s GIS Club members and members from our new 4-H Science Club. They all helped to place survey stakes along the amended trail which the city will begin construction on in early summer. Geocaching was one of the several topics of discussion during the event, and there was a lot of visiting about different ways a GPS can be used.
