ESCAPE SCHOOL COMING TO REC CENTER

The City of Farmers Branch is teaming up with the Dignity Memorial Network to present the nationally acclaimed “Escape School” program on Tuesday, October 21 from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center.

Presented free of charge, the program teaches critical abduction prevention and life-saving tactics on how to survive in dangerous situations. Featured on “The Today Show,” “Oprah,” “Americas Most Wanted” and “Good Morning America,” Escape School helps to dispel fear by teaching proactive strategies in a fun, non-threatening manner. Parents are encouraged to attend this beneficial program with their children to reinforce the knowledge that leads to smart choices.

The program discusses topics including: how to be smart, not scared; how all the rules change in an abduction attempt; the difference between good and bad strangers; the common lures abductors use and why they are successful; how to get away, right away; how to escape from a car; and how to find help when you need it.

The Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center is located at 14050 Heartside Place, near the intersection of Valwood and Heartside. Call 972-247-4607 for more information.

THE 2008 TEEN CONTACT CONFERENCE

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Be there to expand your knowledge.

Improve your resources. Challenge your thinking.

Be there for the teens in your life.

Do you work with teens?  Are you the parent of a teen?  Well, this conference is for you!  Join community leaders from all fields for the most up-to-date information about the challenges our young people face daily.

How should we communicate with them?  Are they listening?  How do I begin the conversation?  These are all questions that many of us ask.  You’ll find good, practical answers at the 2008 TEEN CONTACT CONFERENCE, hosted by CONTACT Crisis Line and Parkland Hospital.

The Grant Halliburton Foundation is proud to be a sponsor of this affordable one-day conference for counselors, parents, educators, community youth leaders, clinicians, and anyone who works with teens.  With 12 informative sessions and two keynote speakers, this is a great opportunity to share ideas and learn new techniques for relating to the upcoming generation of young people.

Register by October 31 and save!  Come as a group from your company, organization, school, church, community center, or PTA and save even more. You can register directly through the attached interactive brochure.

Tell a friend or associate!  We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, November 8.
