Reading for Information - FREE Online Course
Reading for information requires different mental skills than reading from fiction. National Geographic Society, Indiana Department of Education, and ERIC Clearinghouse on Reading, English and Communication have released an online course for teachers and parents titled, "Reading for Information," a 9-unit interactive course, techniques for reading and remembering a wide range of nonfiction material, including descriptions and procedures, news reporting, arguments and opinions, and biography and nonfiction narratives. Free at http://reading.indiana.edu/reading/. For professional development credit or university credit to update teaching licenses, participate in online discussions and pass quiz at the end of each unit.
