Professionally

The 2009-2010 school year is my 10th as librarian at Barbara Bush MS in Irving TX, part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Before this I taught HS science (biology, chemistry, physical science) for 8 years at C-FB's Mary Grimes Education Center, the alternative high school for at-risk students.

Middle school is my favorite age & I especially love my school--perfect building, perfect principal, perfect faculty & staff, perfect students. I'm excited that we have become an International Baccalaureate-Middle Years Program candidate school & look forward to taking our library program in new directions, especially as the Approaches to Learning facilitator.

I've been on the Internet & WWW since 1993 (back when it was text only) & I was the original webpage trainer in the district for 7 years. Now I'm our school webmaster & also maintain the BBMS BroncoNET online virtual library.

Online you can find me as the BroncoNET Librarian.

Personally

I've been married to a prince of a guy for 34 years--and we still really like each other! I have 2 offspring ('cause they aren't kids anymore!)--a son who is a computer whiz and a daughter who's a whiz at nearly everything else. I also have 2 female dogs--a black corgi & a yellow lab--as well as a male Bengal cat & 2 adorable female kittens ( technically they're my daughter's cats, but I've had 14 other cats of my own over many years). Because I am a science teacher & animal lover, I've had many other pets: gerbils, chinchillas, guinea pigs, rabbits, hermit crab, parakeets cockatiel, dove, a variety of geckos & lizards (no snakes ... my mother would NEVER come to see me!!).

My major leisure activity is reading; I love mystery (Rex Stout's "Nero Wolf" series is my favorite), fantasy (JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is my all-time favorite book, which I've read more than 30 times), and science fiction (Asimov, Bradbury, Neil Stephenson & Star Trek), but I devour non-fiction about many subjects (favorites are Edward Tufte and any futurist).

Online & IM I'm known as Barupa or BarupaTX. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses & am happy to discuss the Bible, any time, anywhere.
