Frequently Asked
Questions
Q: What days are you available for tutorials?
A: I am available Monday through Friday for tutorials by appointment. I will
have duty some weeks, but I will let your child know ahead of time that I will
be unavailable for tutorials. If your child is failing my class or has less
than a 74, it is mandatory that they attend my tutorials at least once a week.
So that your student can come when needed to tutorials, your student has already
received a year-long tutorial pass from me.
Q: How often do you give homework?
A: I usually assign homework 2 days a week. Students typically are given time to begin the assignment in class and possibly finish it in class. The homework that is assigned is merely a reinforcement or practice of what is taught in the classroom. Assigned homework should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Q: Should I check my student's agenda every evening?
A: YES! Students are prompted in their classes to note the daily agenda, learning goals, any works in progress, assigned homework and due dates. If you check their agenda, you will easily be able to see what your student is working on in class and also question them about whether they finished the work that is noted in the agenda.
Q: What if my child fails (scores below 70) a test in your class?
A: Once your child has received their grade for a test, if failing, they have the option of retaking it to earn up to a 70. A 70 is considered a passing grade. All retakes must be taken within one week upon receiving failing grades. It is the responsibility of the student to see me for a retake.
Q: What if I notice my child is failing or close to failing your class on their progress report?
A: First, talk to your child about why they would be failing my class. Your student should be aware of why their grade is low or failing. Some students will act like they don't know, BUT if you prompt them about whether they completed all their homework, turned in all assignments, participated in class, studied their notes, and performed well on all quizzes and tests, most failing students or close to failing students will reply that they did not. Communication is key between parents and teachers, but it is just as important between parents and students.
Your student should also receive a separate itemized failing progress report with their school progress report if their grade is 74 or below in any class. Please check this progress report as it clearly states the assignment and the grade given. This progress report should be looked over, signed, and your student should return it to me or the appropriate teacher for documentation purposes.
If you still do not feel you have enough information as to why your student is failing, then this is the time to set up a conference to discuss your student's grades.
Q: If I want to conference with you, how do I set this up?
A: You can either email me at monthleyt@cfbisd.edu or you can call me at school (972-968-4400) and we can arrange a time that is best for both of us.
Q: What are your expectations for student work?
A: I expect all work to be on time and completed to the best of the student's ability. If work appears to be sloppily or hurriedly done, I may hand the work back to the student to redo for a late grade. Any work that is handed back to be redone, should be done in a quality manner.
