C-FB SCHOOL-AGE PARENTING PROGRAM

The School-Age Parenting Program (SAPP) provides services and support for teen-age parents so they can stay in school, develop marketable skills through the vocational program, and become the best parent possible. A high school student may stay at their home school (Turner, Smith or Creekview) or transfer to Mary Grimes Education Center. A middle school student will be served at their home school. Whatever the decision, C-FB ISD provides all pregnant and school-age parents the following services:

  • counseling
  • information and assistance regarding educational and career choices
  • referrals for obtaining social services and medical care, including crisis referrals
  • homeschool instruction during pregnancy if a doctor requires a period of confinement for 5-20 days for medical reasons
  • homeschool instruction for up to 6 weeks after delivery
When a student receives homeschool instruction, the homebound teacher will contact the student's teachers, pick up all the student's school assignments and take them to the student. The teacher will work with the student on an individual basis for approximately four hours per week, usually divided into two visits. The homebound teacher will also proctor any necessary exams for the student.
  • assistance in securing help with daycare costs
The student will be required to apply for CCMS, a federal program that pays most of the daycare costs for school-age parents. If not eligible, or if put on a waiting list, the SAPP will assist the student in paying a portion of daycare costs.
  • bi-monthly parenting classes

Pregnant and parenting students who attend Mary Grimes Education Center are also eligible for:

  • daily parenting classes, instruction in prenatal development, and child development (elective credit)
  • group and individual counseling
  • bus transportation for the student and baby to and from home, daycare, and school

Before receiving SAPP services, students must have their pregnancy verified at a medical clinic, and bring the pregnancy verification form to their school counselor or nurse. Some local clinics that are free or inexpensive are:
