Welcome! I am Cathy Lopez. This is my seventh year as music teacher at Rainwater Elementary. I graduated from East Texas State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, with plans to be a band director. There I met and married my husband Lino Lopez. August 13th we celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. We live together with our 14 year old daughter Velvet Elizabeth in Carrollton, Texas.

Velvet is an alumni of Rainwater Elementary and is currently a 9th grader at Creekview High School (GO MUSTANGS!!!) She plays mellophone in the marching band, as well as French Horn in Symphonic I Band.
There are also adult children in the Lopez family. My son Tony is a drumline instructor in Red Oak and will begin work on his Masters degree in Music Education in January. He reads and plays drums in his spare time.

My daughter Victoria married Caleb Whitley in March of 2006, and in May of 2006 they both received their Masters degrees in Business Administration (MBA) from Dallas Baptist University. They currently work in Dallas and live in Carrollton with their 2 dogs Pepper and Violet.

The final member of my family is "Velvet's Duchess of Dreams", or Duchess for short. She is a two year old pedigreed Papillion. Her favorite activities are running, barking, playing ball, and taking frequent dips in the swimming pool to cool off.
We enjoy traveling as a family.
This summer we set out on a family road trip to California. We
remembered
our past at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, saw seals in Monterey, walked through ancient trees in Muir Woods, drove down Lombard Street
in San Francisco, saluted "El Capitan" in Yosemite National Park, visited the
buffets in Las Vegas, "got our kicks on Route 66", and sweltered in the desert heat as we visited Petrified
Forest National Park. Sixteen days and 5,000 miles later we arrived back
in Carrollton, road weary but with an appreciation for all that our country has
to offer.
I enjoy hanging with my family, reading, Mavericks basketball, and trying to keep the flowers alive in my garden.
