Texas Bluebonnet Reading Program
Texas students in grades 3 through 5 have an opportunity to participate in the Texas Bluebonnet Program. The Thompson Library participates each year in the program. It is a reading program that allows children to select their favorite book from a preselected list of books chosen by a committee of educators as some of the best books for children in grades 3 - 5. Students are encouraged to read or listen to as many of the books as possible. The list is not designed for all children to read all of the books. Eligibility to vote on your favorite Bluebonnet book requires reading or listening to a minimum of five books on the list. Voting usually takes place in January. Thompson ballots will be sent to the State Library Association and tallied with all other student ballots in Texas. The winning book and its author win an award in honor of the achievement. These books can be checked out at the Thompson Library or the Carrollton Public Library. The following is a list of all 20 nominees for 2009 - 2010.
