Tips for Reading Olympians
Hello Sheffield
Wranglers,
Ms. Briggs has another
exciting program for you! This time you will you will participate in Sheffield
Primary’s Wrangler Reading Olympics. There will be five reading events and you
will receive medals for your completion of these events. I know with effort and
perseverance, you will succeed.
-
You
will participate in 5 events for the Reading Olympics. There is one event for
each Olympic Ring:
-Yellow
Ring: Caldecott/Newberry Medal Event
-Blue Ring: Fiction
Event
-Black Ring Biography
Event
-Green Ring: Non
Fiction Event
-Red Ring: Olympic Host
Nations Event
-
You will write the title (and chapter if you read a chapter of
a book) and author of each book you read. If you read a magazine,
encyclopedia or newspaper article, you write the title of the article and the
name of the source you read it from.
-
An adult must sign each event when completed in order to
receive incentives.
-
You will receive a medal and an incentive for each level
completed:
-Bronze Medal: 1
completed event
-Silver Medal: 3
completed events
-Gold Medal &
Certificate of Completion: 5 events
All students who reach
the Gold Medal level will get a party bag during their end of the year
celebration in May.

Students may read books, magazine, encyclopedia or newspaper
articles to fulfill reading requirements.

You cannot read the same book for more than one event.
-
You can read independently, with a reading buddy or books can
be read to you. Books on tape or CD do count. Movies and television
shows do not count.

Books for Host Nation Event will be located in the yellow
section in Sheffield’s library. Each Host Nation is labeled for easy access.

Second Grade logs are due on Tuesdays and prizes are given out
on Wednesdays. First Grade and Kindergarten logs are due on Thursdays and
prizes are given out on Fridays.
