Fables


  • short story or folk tale

  • made up story

  • may include animals or plants that have human characteristics (they talk, etc.)

  • Its purpose is to teach a lesson or moral or give advice.

  • often funny

  • An author of a fable is called a "fabulist."

  • usually written, instead of passed down by telling

  • often contain "tricksters"

  • There are fables in many cultures.

  • One of the earliest fabulists was Aesop, a slave who lived in ancient Greece during the 6th century BC. Although no solid evidence exists to prove that Aesop was a real person, some people consider him as the "Father of Fables."
