2. Gift materials will be judged by the basic selection standards and will be accepted or rejected by the same criteria. All gift materials received by the school district will be judged according to selection standards prior to being added to the collection; materials which do not meet the selection standards will be returned to the donor or otherwise disposed.
C. Two basic factors - truth and art - will be considered in the selection of materials.
1. Truth includes factual accuracy, authoritativeness, balance, timeliness, and integrity.
2. Art includes qualities of presentation, imagination, vision, creativity and style appropriate not only to the material but also to the maturity of the students for whom the material is to be chosen.
D. In applying the criteria for selection, each work shall be considered in its entirety and shall be selected or rejected accordingly. Many valuable materials have both faults and virtues, and may be included if the virtues counterbalance the faults according to the selection criteria.
