Helpful Hints for Parents

*Please allow your child to walk himself/herself to the classroom after the first two weeks of school.  This is an important transition for children as they accept personal responsibility.  (It also makes them feel “big!”)

*School keeps children very active.  For your child to be rested and ready for the next day, it is recommended that they be in bed between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. each night!  We promise we’ll wear them out!

*Label all coats, jackets, hats, mittens, backpacks, etc. with your child’s name.

*School begins at 7:50.  Students are considered tardy at 8:10.  If your child is late, please bring them in to the office and sign them in.  (Please make every attempt to have them here on time.  When children are late, it adversely affects their entire day!)

*Dismissal:  Teachers will dismiss students in the back of the building by the Kindergarten playground.  Those of you who drive to pick up your child will be given a tag with your child’s name.  Please display it prominently in the front of your vehicle.  There is no need to get out of your car, as a teacher will walk your child to your car and help them get safely inside.

*Please call the office if your child will miss school (972-968-2200).  By state law, your child MUST BE in attendance 90% of the school days.  Good attendance is ESSENTIAL in order to help your child be successful in school!

*If you must pick up your child early, please go to the office and sign your child out.  The secretary will get your child from their class. Students may not be checked out after 2:30.

*IMPORTANT:  For your child’s safety, you must notify the teacher in writing if you change your child’s regular transportation arrangement.  DO NOT send your child to school with a verbal message.  Your child will not be released until we have confirmed the change.  Please call the office in case of emergency only.

*If you send money to school, please seal it in an envelope with your child’s name, teacher’s name and purpose for the money.

*Teachers cannot dispense your child’s medication.  ALL medicine must be sent to the nurse’s office in its original container with a note explaining the time and amount to be administered.  NOTE:  Cough drops are considered medicine.  You must also send them with a note for the nurse.
*Students eat lunch at school and may buy or bring their lunch.  At this time, the price for a school lunch is $1.75.  Breakfast is also available between 7:30 and 8:00 for $1.00.  Breakfast and/or lunch tickets may be purchased in advance for the week and/or month.

*Please make certain the office has current phone numbers for your home and work and additional emergency phone numbers.

*Please checks your child’s folder and backpack for news and notes everyday.  Your child needs to bring a full-sized backpack (no rolling backpacks, please) to school every day.  Toys may be brought only if specifically asked by your child's teacher.

*The school develops a monthly calendar of school activities.  Classroom teachers provide a weekly note with important news.  We suggest you hang these somewhere so that you and your child can check daily for homework and other important reminders.
